Sardinia: Ceramic workshop a stone’s throw from the sea

“Ceramics means transformation: a piece of earth and water that has great potential in itself and through the act of creation gains personality. Ceramics means welcoming because it cannot be defined without listening to it. Clay is alive and is in synergy with those who work it and with the elements of space. Ceramics teaches patience, the ability to always be amazed, to give and take. It is an infinite world where there is always discovery. It is a slow progression in which steps cannot be skipped. It is a continuous exchange of primal energies.” This is how Anna Franca, creative and art-therapist, welcomes us on this journey of self-discovery within the magic of ceramics. It will be a journey to discover our creative side, it will be a process of growth and transformation that, evolving day by day within us, will become pleasantly irreversible.

Day 1 – Saturday, September 25
Let’s introduce ourselves Arrival at Elmas airport and meeting with our friends from VillaggioCarovana who are waiting for us for the transfer to Castiadas (about 40′) during which they tell us a little about the area.
Upon arrival, a little chat to break the ice before taking possession of our rooms. Lunch at the Village to enjoy typical products. In the afternoon, Anna Franca awaits us for the creative pottery workshop during which she tells us how shaping clay can be a process of inner transformation. The use of hands allows us to solicit one of our senses most in touch with our soul: touch. After dinner, visit the prisons to learn about the area and understand why, over time, it has become the refuge of enlightened minds who daily preserve its environment and traditions. Day 2 – Sunday, September 26
Shaping our intentions At VillaggioCarovana, a good day is seen in the morning! A breakfast full of local and genuine products seasoned with chatter and laughter with the rest of the group awaits us. Today we dedicate ourselves entirely to clay; with the help of Anna Franca we awaken that creative vein that, perhaps, we didn’t know we had, letting the hand follow instinct but always handling the material with delicate gestures. Break for a walk to the beaches where we stop for a picnic lunch and where the more daring can take the last dip of the season. We return to VillaggioCarovana to resume our workshop. We finally give color to our creations and who knows … maybe even to our imagination! We all get together again for dinner where we never miss the opportunity to test the genuine local cuisine and get to know each other better. Day 3 – Monday, September 27
Awareness and contemplation We have reached the last day of our beautiful experience and, fortunately, the typical VillaggioCarovana breakfast makes the day less melancholy. This morning Anna Franca teaches us how to prepare the kiln that will transform our creations into beautiful solidarity pottery. She will be in charge of taking care of them after our departure and shipping them (at our expense) to those who feel like taking them home. After lunch, weather permitting, we take a nice walk to the lighthouse to share impressions and evaluate our experience together.

In case of bad weather, we will put our hands to the dough again, this time to learn the art of embroidering dough with a workshop of culurgionis with the typical herringbone closure that no machine in the world will ever make.

Transfer to the airport in the company of our friends from VillaggioCarovana for a warm farewell that smacks of nostalgia and gratitude and to promise that we will be back soon for a new mindfulness experience.

The order of visits and activities, or the program itself, may change for organizational or climatic reasons, without altering the content.

The VillaggioCarovana: At the VillaggioCarovana, all barriers, whether structural or cultural, are broken down. Differences that become nourishment and personal enrichment are valued. We are in a place that respects nature, the products of the earth are local and fair trade, energy is clean thanks to photovoltaics and solar thermal, composting is practiced, water is strictly from the tap, homemade bread with mother dough, and plastic is abolished! Central structure: Relaxation corner with bookcase, sofas, fireplace, stereo, TV and DVD player. Multifunctional space adaptable to any creative, manual, meditative activity. PC and Internet connection available to guests. Foosball, table tennis and various board games. Dining room adjacent to the kitchen, loggia for outdoor lunches and dinners. Rooms: It has 8 independent masonry rooms, separated from the central structure and connected by rammed-earth walkways. Each room measures about 16 square meters and has a large ante-bathroom with washbasin and bathroom (with toilet, intimate hygiene shower and shower). Large wooden French doors give access to the veranda furnished with table and chairs; all have ceiling fans, inverter air conditioner, solar thermal and materials needed for daily room cleaning. Dining: Fixed menu but can be customized based on any special needs or intolerances to be reported when booking. Simple and tasty dishes are cooked, as at home, using good quality products that follow the logic of the short supply chain but also fresh handmade pasta, typical of the island’s culinary tradition. Why support them: The strength of VillaggioCarovana is social tourism. In the summer, people with special needs are hosted here, and guests’ deficits and abilities are assessed for task sharing and goal sharing as part of a project identified for the occasion. The mugs we will learn to create with the pottery workshop are intended for sale and will help support their social inclusion project. Registration fee: will fund relief stays for people with disabilities.
